Central Database of Shoah Victims’ Names. I’m nearly finished reading The Lost by Daniel Mendelsohn. I’ve become a lazy blogger in the last few months, but I remain a very dedicated reader and The Lost is the great work of my recent reading. The Lost is an epic work: detective story, Holocaust history, family reminiscence and much, much more. As far as I know, on both my mother’s and father’s side all the known family was in the United States by the early twentieth century and was spared the Holocaust. But enter Knobel in the central database and 600 results are returned. All certainly relatives of mine. Mendelsohn brings back those voices and lives as he tracks down six of the six million verlorene.
